According to recent news, Punjab and twin cities (Islamabad and Rawalpindi) will have 08 hours of load shedding. The reason for this unexpected load shedding is the shortfall of electricity up to 5000 MW. However, it is also reported that many plants working on coal, gas and furnace oil have been shut down. For all these reasons, Punjab and the Federation are facing several hours of load shedding.

Duration of load shedding

  • The duration of load shedding in Islamabad and Rawalpindi will be 08 hours.
  • The duration of load shedding in Punjab has also increased from 03 to 10 hours.

Load shedding in the Twin Cities

However, citizens in the vicinity of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are already facing unannounced load shedding since last week. Consumers complained that the Twin Cities have had eight- to 10-hour blackouts in the last six months in the name of maintenance. When the government warned the supply company to stop maintenance, LESCO started unannounced load shedding.

Load shedding in Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang and other cities of Punjab

Apart from the twin cities, Punjab is also facing severe blackout. Cities of Punjab (Lahore, FSD etc.) have 3 to 10 hours of load shedding due to which citizens face many problems.

Citizens’ reaction to unexpected load shedding

Citizens were outraged by the increasing schedule of load shedding and made it a trend on Twitter. Due to load shedding, some consumers started comparing Pakistan with old Pakistan. In this regard, Twitter users are sharing a lot of memes mocking the government and WAPDA.
